Call before attending when you are unwell

Respiratory infections and other contagious illnesses circulate throughout the year. They can range from mild infections to more serious conditions affecting older adults, young children, pregnant individuals, and people with chronic health conditions.

If you have a fever, new cough, vomiting, diarrhea, significant respiratory symptoms, or suspected COVID-19 or influenza, remain at home when possible and contact the clinic before attending.

Respiratory illness

COVID-19, influenza, RSV, common colds, and other viral infections may cause fever, cough, congestion, sore throat, fatigue, headache, or muscle aches.

Stomach illness

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and dehydration may be signs of a contagious gastrointestinal illness.

Virtual first step

A physician may review symptoms, discuss treatment, provide advice, arrange follow-up, or decide whether an in-person exam is necessary.

Help reduce the spread of illness

  • Stay home when unwell
  • Wash hands regularly
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Follow current public health recommendations
  • Stay up to date with recommended vaccinations
  • Avoid close contact with vulnerable individuals when sick

Start with a phone call

The clinic can help determine whether a telephone consultation or in-person assessment is most appropriate.

When to seek urgent medical attention

Seek medical assessment for persistent or worsening symptoms, difficulty breathing, chest pain, signs of dehydration, high fever, symptoms in an infant or medically vulnerable person, or concerns related to an underlying medical condition.

For a medical emergency, call 911 or seek emergency care immediately.
